Literature Text

In spirals will the wind
scatter all the leaves
while hedgehogs feed to fatten up
scurrying like thieves

The nuts have fallen from the trees
to feed the little mice
and all the squirrels took their share
if they were so wise

Cold frogs are hiding in the mud
down deeply in the pools
dreaming of the thaw in spring
as the autumn cools

Through layer upon layer
of leaves in every hue
the brightest mushrooms stick their heads
sporting drops of dew

Under weathered grasses
dry and yellow gold
little creatures build their nests
hiding from the cold

Before the sun, so low and bright
there flies a flock of geese
crying low a sad goodbye
to anyone that sees
I don't think that this poem is quite finished yet, for there are far more elements of the autumn that I want to hear in it.
Suggestions are appreciated...
